Lovely Friend,
My passion is over the moon about this and I'm so eager to share my "new" focus with you.
Though it's not really new, it's more like "Back to Basics": what we need to be healthy and happy on the deepest level, and what I know will ultimately transform our world into a peaceful
and loving place.
It's self-compassion, and it's the missing ingredient in our lives—from self-care to healthcare to family care. We are simply not in touch with how being kinder toward ourselves
helps.
Self-compassion is a learned skill of extending tenderness toward ourselves in moments of suffering. The practice of self-compassion invites us to open our hearts and embrace ourselves as we are, in this very moment.
Self-compassion is what I did NOT have for myself for most of my life. I had to learn how to care for myself in a gentler way so I'd be well, happy, and productive. I did this by learning how to choose "the kindest thing" for myself over and over again. Initially self-compassion looked like good self-care, but then it expanded. It actually
became a life-path because it uprooted ego and cultivated the virtues to which I aspired: inner calm, clarity, generosity, love and joy.
Since 1994, all of my work in the world has been infused with the message of self-compassion, but it was not my primary focus. It's time to change all that. It's Back to
Basics time!
I've made a commitment: for the next two years (at least), 2016-17, my sole focus in life and work will be to deepen in self-compassion and to help others do the same by teaching "The Kindest Thing."
